Bedroom of Jeanne Lanvin, Musée des Arts Décoratifs
Housed in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, this rare example of a bedroom of the 1920's hung with an embroidered material completely identical to the original, with a chainstitch of white cotton and bronze metal threads on a blue shantung background.
The decor, created by Armand Rateau for Jeanne Lanvin, is inspired by a reinvented
« Turquerie ». Wall after wall, the embroidery fits perfectly the architecture of the room, illustrating with brio the ability of a talented interior designer to use embroidery and, more widely, the decorative arts.
The 52 embroiderers involved in this project needed a special knack to imitate the
« Cornely » semi-mechanical technique of the original.
